For a simple blog, Heart Internet is great, especially if you're in the UK as their support is UK-based. GoDaddy can feel a bit more aggressive with upsells, imo.

I tried that once and it didn't work. They mostly do automated discounts for new sign-ups anyway, so usually you don't even need a code for the intro offers.
